PREFACE
-------
This document describes new features in LAN+MODEM which are not
present in the current printing of the LAN+MODEM User Guide. This
information should be considered an extension to the Guide.
To print this document, issue the DOS command:
COPY README.DOC PRN

PRINT README.DOC
Changes to Existing Text
------------------------
Change to page 16, paragraph 4, "Warning".
This warning no longer applies. MCOM takes different actions if other
communications software has been run on its COM port. If the other
software is still active when UCOM or NETDEV begins a session, you
will see the message, "MCOM: Interrupt was taken by another program
and is still in use!". If the other software has terminated, MCOM
will reattach itself to the COM port and you will not see any message
or notice any change in operation.
New Translation table in UCOM.EXE Version 2.60
----------------------------------------------
A fourth type of terminal emulation has been added which allows 7-bit
data to be translated to the 8-bit character set. This is most
commonly used with 7-bit Bulletin Boards which utilize the PC's
extended character set by means of such a translation table.
To enable this operation, press ALT/T to enter the Terminal Select
menu. Choose E to go to the Translation Table editor. Choose E again
to edit the entries or <PgUp> and <PgDn> to view the three pages of
codes which can be translated. When E is chosen, you will enter the
screen editor for a page of entries. Any non-negative number can be
entered, but if it is greater than 255, it will be truncated to an 8-
bit value (0-255) when saved. Press ESC to optionally abort editing.
When the desired changes are made, exit the screen editor by pressing
CTRL/Enter. Press ESC to save the changes and exit the editor. Now
select option 4, "INT'L" as the current terminal type, and all data
received by the modem will be translated as you have defined in the
table. The 'ANSI' terminal control codes, including 'TTY', will also
be processed in this mode.
If the Log mode is active, characters will be translated before being
written to the Log file.
The translation table is stored to a file named LMTRN1.DAT. If more
than one table is needed, copy the table to a different name such as
LMTRN2.DAT and run UCOM again. Then you can reedit the table with the
new translations.

New MCOM Locator Program for NetBIOS Users
------------------------------------------
A program named LOCATE.EXE has been added to the UTIL directory on
your software diskette. It displays a list of all possible twenty
modem drivers and then scans the network for their status and
location. It uses a process which takes no more than 8 seconds to
locate from zero to 20 modem drivers.
The 'Status' field will read 'Polling' (not yet found), 'Idle' (can
connect to), 'Working' (cannot connect to), or 'Not found' (no such
driver). The 'Location' field will show the Node Name of the PC on
which the driver is located, for your reference.
This program will allow you to quickly determine which ports, if any,
can be used immediately without having to wait for UCOM or NETDEV to
scan the entire list of drivers in order.

Enhanced MCOM Locator Program for IPX/SPX Users
-----------------------------------------------
Previous versions of IPXSTAT.EXE contained a feature to locate the
modem drivers, but which could take up to 40 seconds to scan the
total 20 modem driver list. IPXSTAT.EXE now shows only basic
parameters for your IPX/SPX network interface. (Pp. 40, 41)

IPXSTAT.EXE has been replaced by LOCATE.EXE in the NETEDIT.EXE file
list (Pg. 41, paragraphs 3 and 5). NETEDIT is a program which sets up
your server network addresses within all of the IPX-specific programs
in the LAN+MODEM package. NETEDIT is used only if you have a 'bridge'
configuration, which can be either internal (multiple LAN cards in a
server) or external (bridge and/or router). (See Pp. 40, 41)
